Hey, I’m Donita.

Let’s get the boring version out of the way: I’m a wife, a mom, a business owner, and a woman who has started over more times than I care to count.

Now the real version.

I’ve been building things my whole life.

I’ve been in IT since 1997. Fifteen of those years were at Northwestern University as a Senior IT Specialist — and somewhere in the middle of working there, I became a student there too.

But that was only ever half of it. For more than 20 years, nights and weekends, I ran Divine Xpectations — planning weddings, designing homes, throwing themed parties people still bring up years later. By day I was fixing systems. By night I was building tablescapes.

Somewhere in there I also built websites, designed graphics, and wrote resumes for anybody who asked. If it needed to get made, I figured out how to make it. I’m what you’d politely call an all-around hustler. My family calls it something less polite. 😂

To this day, walk into my house and you’re likely to find me elbow-deep in a project — custom wood paddles and gifts for sororities and fraternities, or a table I decided needed refinishing at 11 o’clock on a Tuesday. That’s not the business. That’s just what my hands do when my brain won’t sit still.

Then something shifted.

I spent a lot of years being the woman everybody could count on. The planner. The fixer. The one holding it all together while quietly running on empty. I was good at it. I was also exhausted, and shrinking myself to keep rooms comfortable that were never all that comfortable for me.

In 2022 I finished a Master of Science in Communication at Northwestern — working full time the entire way through. Nobody made me do it. There was no promotion waiting on the other side, no raise, no boss to impress. I just wasn’t finished.

Then in 2024, I did the thing I’d been circling for years. I walked away from a 27-year career in technology to bet on myself.

I’m not going to dress that up and make it look effortless. It was terrifying. There is no version of leaving a steady paycheck after 27 years that feels cute while it’s happening.

And here’s the part I’ll be honest about: a master’s in communication does not automatically make you brave enough to open your mouth. I sat on all of it for a while — the degrees, the career, two decades of knowing how to build things — quietly wondering who I thought I was.

I’m done sitting on it.

So what is this place?

This is where I share the whole thing — the confidence, the style, the business lessons, the soft life I fought for, and the faith holding all of it together. Some days that’s an outfit that made me feel like a whole moment. Some days it’s what I learned the expensive way about running a business. Some days it’s just me being honest about a hard week.

I’m not here to perform an inspirational life at you. I’m a woman a few chapters in, telling you the truth about what it actually took — with jokes, because I can’t help myself.

And if you’re wondering whether this is for you —

If you’ve got more in you than you’re currently using. If you’re tired of waiting on the right moment, the right amount of confidence, or somebody’s permission. If you’ve been sitting in a job you’ve outgrown, doing the math in your head, wondering if you could really do it.

You don’t have to be over 40. You just have to be done playing small.

And when we talk business around here, know that I’m not theorizing. Twenty-seven years in technology. A master’s in communication. Two decades running my own company on the side. I’ve built the websites, made the mistakes, and made payroll. These days my husband Kelvin and I help other business owners grow — and I’m bringing those tools and shortcuts here too.

Pull up a seat. I’m glad you’re here.
